BLACK GOLD: RWANDAN COFFEE COMMUNITIES
As the monsoonal storm clouds rolled in, our dusty roads were swiftly transformed into a deep red slippery clay pit, but our humble Rav 4 forged forwards, frequently losing traction of the rear wheels whilst passing the occasional local sheltering under the banana trees. "Welcome to Rwanda!" one local shouted to us as we passed, the car slowly drifting sideways uphill with the steering wheel at full lock - with an airborne trail of wet red clay spat out behind us in our wake.
Our purpose? To meet & document one of the Rwandan communities that brings us a Melbourne staple, coffee - also affectionately known as Black Gold.
